‘Tis the season to be busy. From hunting down that perfect gift to hitting every holiday party and finding the time to prepare all the seasons treats, it can be very difficult to carve out some quality time for yourself. Here are some of December’s events that will let you step away from the holiday hoopla, and enjoy your life; even if it’s just for one night.

What: Friday Night Karaoke

When: Every Friday Night from December to March, 9pm

Where: Nightlife Lounge in Patchogue

What’s Up: Kick your weekend off right as DJ Ray spins the songs you love to sing every Friday night. With an enormous song library, and an impeccable sound system you are bound to impress the crowd by showing them your best rendition of your favorite song. Too shy to get on stage? What: The Great Northeast Cheese Fest

When: Saturday, December 10, 6pm

Where: Flushing Town Hall

What’s Up: Everything is better with cheddar. And brie; as well as every other type of cheese. Creamy or hard. Sharp or nutty. Sheep or cow’s milk. This fest has all types of artisanal cheeses. Join chefs and epicureans to taste what some of the best cheesemakers from across the state have brought to the table. Here’s more.

What: Vanderbilt Home Tour and Beatles Tribute Band

When: Sunday, December 11, 4:30pm

Where: Vanderbilt Museum, Centerport

What’s Up: Walk through historic Long Island as you tour the famous home of William Vanderbilt. Learn about the intricacies of the mansion and afterwards hang out in the planetarium to catch The Liverpool Shuffle play some of the Beatles bests. Here’s more.
