Rumors of Roof-tops at Rhum

It’s here. After years of hearing rumors, and months of catching momentary glimpses during construction; finally, David and Rachel Hersh are ready to unveil their most recent project. Day-trippers and locals alike have been salivating at the notion of another Hersh enterprise since Rumba and Cowfish have opened their doors back 2010 and 2012, respectively. Whispers of what the menu is going to consist of, or what libations are going to be served have left everyone guessing; but the biggest piece of news isn’t the tacos or the mojitos. It’s that the Hersh’s will have the first, roof-top bar ever opened on the main street of Patchogue.

The menu is very similar to the menu at Rumba featuring all the same tacos, appetizers and entrees. It did incorporate a couple of Cowfish favorites as well such as the tuna poke and although it is called something else, the Gibbs burger has made an appearance. Of course, the bar is serving up the dangerously delicious Rum Punches and Rum Sangrias as well. And if you don’t drink alcohol you can still join in the fun by ordering a virgin Punch.

With three floors to explore there are surprises all over the place. Upon entrance, you are greeted by a gaggle of pretty girls in Hawaiian dresses. These hostesses are there to kick-off your island experience. The first floor has a beautiful, half-moon bar and an open kitchen. Stay downstairs and dine at the bar, or head upstairs to the dining room and overlook Main Street out the portal windows. With light fixtures made from colored mason jars or the ones that were handmade by David and hang from redesigned rum cases, every detail has been carefully considered. Keep on heading up the stairs to the third floor and check out the brilliant blue bar. With swings instead of bar-stools this spot is the best place to grab some cocktails with your friends and hang out.

Monday, December 6 was the first day Rhum was open to the public. This upcoming weekend you can expect the place to be packed so if you want to grab a swing, be sure to get there early. As winter starts to creep in remember Rhum, like its sister restaurants, can be a great place to escape the cold and take a quick stay-cation.
