Now that the turkey is all gone and everyone is stuffed with stuffing, the holiday shopping mayhem has commenced and many people are looking for something to take their minds off the madness. You won’t find any tree lighting ceremonies or cookie decorating classes here. These events are here to take your mind off the season-itis and to keep you grounded during a time where it can be very easy to get carried away. What: The 90s Band and Wannabe
When: Friday, December 2, 10pm
Where: Mulcahy’s of Wantagh
What’s Up: Break out your Jnco jeans and spice up your life as The 90’s Band and the Spice Girls Tribute perform live the first Friday in December. Not only can you sing along to all the pop classics but the bar will serving four dollar fireball shots to keep you fired up all night. Where: Various Locations in Greenport
What’s Up: Mosey along Main Street and enjoy some of Long Island’s freshest seafood and shellfish as it is paired perfectly with local beer and wines. This is truly a great deal because as harvest season starts to wind down and the day-tripping crowds subside, it is the best time of year to really explore what the North Fork has to offer. Whether you are touring a tiny vineyard or trying some tasty tapas, heading out east is a great way to take a quick staycation. Where: Montauk Point State Park
What’s Up: Grab your scarf and mittens and wander along the edge of the island. Inhale the crisp ocean air and watch the seals swim along the shoreline. This guided, three-mile hike will inform you of traditional seal habitats and behaviors. Reservations are required, so be sure to call ahead. Here’s more.
